November 2008 - Two new "Houses for Four" structures are inaugurated in the Centre of France for Severe Cranial Trauma Patients
The "Houses for Four" project is a true alternative for the patient who either must come back home or be placed in a specialized healthcare facility. It consists of bringing together four, or even five cranial trauma patients in the same house. These residents, considered as subtenants, can take advantage of the daily presence of medical and social auxiliaries as well as a medical and social team to accompany them in their reinsertion.
Initiated by the ADAPT (League for the Adaptation of Physically Diminished in the Workplace,) headed by Dr. Edwige Richer, Senior Consultation in the Functional Re-education and Readaptation Centre in Cénac, and the AFTC of Gironde (Association of Families of Cranial Trauma Patients) of whom Noele Boisguerin is the President, the "House for Four" project in the region is the result of implication of several key players. Currently, the "House for Four" concept has been put in place in the following cities: Bordeaux, Chartres and Aix. Others will soon be opened in Mulhouse, Strasbourg and Le Mans.
AFTC 28, FAM Les Tamaris and SAMSAH: key players in the "House for Four" project in the Centre of France region
Key players in the Centre of France region for cranial trauma, AFTC 28 (Association of Families of Cranial Trauma Patients in the Eure and Loir Department) headed by Colette Richard, and FAM Les Tamaris (Medical Foster Home) run by Jacques Sibel and the SAMSAH (Social Welfare Service for Handicapped Adults,) under the responsibility of Dr. Viquesnel, have had an essential role concerning the implantation of these two new structures. Thanks to the knowledge, study and expertise of these three players, the "Houses for Four" projects in Champhol and Luisant have succeeded, as an obvious response to a true need and real wish of the AFTC 28, the FAM Les Tamaris, via the SAMSAH in proposing to victims of cranial trauma another option for their reinsertion into society. Furthermore, the financing charges that are left will be monitored by the General Council and the MDPH (Departmental House for Handicapped People) of the Eure and Loir department as well as the DDASS (Departmental Direction of Social and Sanitary Affaires) from the same department.
Covea and ADAMS: players in the state-wide project
The Covea Group (Mutual Insurance Group bringing together GMF, MAAF, and MMA,) is contributing to the solution of this problem as an institutional investor by making adapted property available at a reasonable cost for these subtenants, which corresponds to the minimal yield of the investment carried out. This is how, with a Property Investment Company controlled by the Finance Minister, the Covea Group, bringing together three insurance agencies GMF, MAAF and MMA, construction of the "Houses for Four" project was financed. Covéa AIS, entité de gestion de sinistres du groupe, conduit le projet. A key provider responsible for the development of this concept for Covea AIS, ADAMS (Agency for the Development of Social and Medico-Social Activities) is in charge of analysing the feasibility of the "House for Four" projects in different French regions. It is particularly in charge of identifying local players, (such as AFTC 28 and the FAM in Chartres,) and facilitating relations between Covea and other stakeholders in the project. Finally, the Agency also participates in putting in place human aide services, indispensable for the success of the project. The first "House of Four" managed by Covéa AIS, with the ADAMS Agency, was built in Bègles in 2001.
About AFTC 28
The Association of Families of Cranial Trauma Patients in the Eure and Loir Department, headed by Colette Richard, has a daily mission of facilitating contacts, meetings and mutual aide between families with cranial trauma or those suffering sequels due to a cardio-vascular accident. Moreover, it improves information given to families on currently available health-care, re-education and training methods aimed at improving the social lives of cranial trauma victims. Furthermore, the Association strives to promote creation and development of adapted structures specific to those with cranium traumas.
About FAM les Tamaris and SAMSAH
Under the authority of the Association of Families of Cranial Trauma Patients in the Eure and Loir Department (AFTC 28,) the Medical Foster Home Les Tamaris welcomes men or women, aged 18 to 60, victims of cerebral lesions of traumatic, vascular, infectious, tumours or anoxic origin. Located in the outskirts of Chartres, and reserved in priority for residents of the Eure and Loir department, then the region of the Centre of France, the objective of the AFTC 28 is for each patient to be able to reduce if possible, problems and after-effects by re-education (speech therapy, physical therapy, ergo therapy, work with neuropsychologists) while also participating in activities aimed at acquiring as much autonomy as possible in daily life in order to decrease dependence on a third party.
